From Pilgrim Podcast..
In biblical times, dreams proclaimed truths and altered paths. What insight do our dreams have to offer our journeys today?
Spiritual director Kasey Hitt and I talk about the messages of dreams and how they are considered “unopened letters from God,” making dreamwork a valuable and often underutilized spiritual practice.

Like Jesus' parables, the dream world often turns what we thought we knew about ourselves and the world on its head. And like parables, inside each dream is a gift for those who choose to tend to them rather than brush them off or walk away in confusion, fear or skepticism. Entering into the ridiculous and disturbing, we discover that all dreams come in service of hope, healing and wholeness.
Just as there are a variety of dreams, there are a variety of ways of working with them! If you have vivid dreams, repetitive/recurring dreams or nightmares, you might schedule a session of dreamwork. Or if you're simply curious to learn more about this nighttime language (perhaps it's the only time the Spirit of God can get a word in edge-wise!) then you might give dreamwork a try. It's very similar to spiritual direction but the focus is on your dreams and dream images.

A Taste of Dreamwork
One of my favorite exercises for personal dreamwork is based on Bob Hoss' 6 Magic Questions. In this exercise we consider how every image/symbol/person/even landscape is a part of the dreamer. Not only is the one who looks like you in the dream you, but so is every image/person/setting/thing in the dream. This is most often what dreams are conveying (something about your own “internal family” or collection of parts).
Before we begin, choose one person or thing in one of your dreams to work with. If you do not have a dream to work with, you might pick an image or setting from the imaginative exercise found on the Spiritual Direction page.
When you've got the image you want to work with, you're ready to begin.

Dreams invite us into the inner world of the soul...When we become conscious of and begin to engage with these displaced pieces of soul, we become partners in an ongoing dialogue with the inner world and we are drawn into an ever deepening relationship with ourselves, with others and with God...All dreams bring insight and energy to help us to grow.
